Rey Narvasa’s second solo exhibition, Local Linkage, opened in January 2025 at Qube Gallery in Cebu, Philippines. Building on the themes of memory and identity from his 2023 debut Heritage in DistINKtion, this new body of work continues to honor Filipino culture through meticulous black ink linework and selective use of acrylic on canvas.

Featuring a staggering 41 mixed-media pieces, Local Linkage captures the richness of everyday life in the Philippines—bustling markets, street vendors, laborers, and religious icons like the Sto. Niño and Mother Mary. Narvasa’s photorealistic technique reveals the depth and dignity in scenes often overlooked, offering a unique perspective shaped by his years abroad in Canada.

This latest exhibition reflects a personal reconnection with home. Local Linkage is not only a tribute to cultural resilience and faith, but also a visual bridge between past and present, distance and belonging—an outsider’s loving gaze on what it means to be Filipino.

Narvasa’s paintings are rich in intricate detail, each stroke meticulously crafted to bring everyday scenes to life—he captures the finest nuances, using crosshatching and precise lines, while paint highlights breathe vibrancy into the composition. Every detail, down to the worn feel of a sari-sari store, the glimmer of light reflecting off plastic wrappers, and the subtle texture of dusty bottles, is rendered with striking realism. These elements invite viewers to step into the scene and witness the authenticity of every moment.
